I'm wondering why the Azilect made you stop driving....was it sleepiness at the wheel? I have been feeling that way myself, but have blamed it on the Mirapex - maybe I'm blaming the wrong med? My Dr. wants me to start Stalevo in addition to the Azilect and Mirapex. I'm reluctant (worried about the nausea and diarrhea), but on the other hand, feeling better might be the result. Is anyone else on that same combo? Is it a good mix? Thanks for your input! Elizabeth |

Hi,everyone. I was just diagnosed yesterday so I don't know if the azilect is going to work for me yet. I took one last evening and one this morning. I forget what else I was going to say so, bye for now! Ladysmith

Hi,I remember what I was going to ask. Are there any meds or supplements or amino acids that are contradictive to azilect? And what are the foods that you should eat with it? Thank you for a reply. ladysmith

Hi All,
I am not a regular contributor, in fact I usually look at your posts when I am having a problem. I have PD and was diagnosed in 07. I started on Mirapex and it really helped but made me very compulsive (spending like never before), I would not have believed it if it had not happen to me. Also, do not stop Mirapex cold turkey, I did and i laid in bed for a week, started back and felt good again. Had to gradually stop mirapex. I am now on Sinemet 25/250 and it works pretty good, no serious side effects. To the point of this post, I tried azilect before and it made me feel very unusual, only a week on the drug, I quit taking it. Recently my Doctor suggested I give it another try, he said it was not like other MAO Inhibitors and there would not be a problem with food, red wine and my depression drug Cymbalta. I took him for his word and started another one month trial, 3 weeks in and I am having numbness in my left foot and to a lesser degree in my left side of my face. In addition, I am now having problems articulating and slow to respond in conversation. I did some net searches and found the numbness is a serious side effect of the drug. Needless to say I've stopped taking it, cold turkey. I am not sure what to expect in terms of withdrawl after nearly 3 weeks on the drug. That's twice now, while some of you seem to respond well to azilect, I do not. Thank you all for sharing your experiences. I hope mine help someone. |

Hi I had a really bad obsessive behaviour problem ....Gambling .... It was Caused by the drug cabasar.each time i increased it by 1 mg it got worse. It was the worse thing that has ever happened to me i had no control ..i told ken my husband and gave him my credit cards so i could not use them, but he didn't realise the seriousness of the problem and felt awful taaking my cards, even though i told him to do it .It all worked out in the end i called my doctor and told him the problem and i was taken off them immediately. It took about 3 months to get them out of my system and feel like i could be in charge of money again...i have always liked to go to the casino witha couple of friends say once every 3 or 4 months but i always had control, could go with a certain amount of money and then come home ..When i told my doctor he said there have been heaps of pd people who have had same problem ....i have not beeen back in 2 years i think it is best for me to stay away lol,I am so lucky i have a huasband who understood what was happening that it was not me but the meds ...The things that we go through with this dreaded disease i really did not need that extra worry but all in the past now.

Hi, Sue. It is so true about the meds and the side effects. My poor husband had compulsive behaviors but neither of us knew it was the Mirapex. He was taken off it "cold turkey" and we had a miserable couple of months as the withdrawal took its toll. Now he is more like himself. His sense of humor has always been his hallmark and his pride; he is now getting it back. He was not so fortunate as you, in that his spouse (I) did not understand and our relationship was damaged considerably by his behavior issues. We are recovering slowly from the trauma. He is such a dear person and it is really great to have him back, even though he moves a bit more slowly.
