I am a 41 year old female who has just been diagnosed with Parkinsons. I have been taking the drug Mirapex for the past 2 weeks. The first week I was put on a very low dosage of .125 mg 3x day. I felt a little dizzy, but nothing major. The second week the dosage increased to .25 mg 3x day. No big side effects (unfortunately still having the tremors and extreme pain in my shoulder and arm). Today I have started the full dosage of .5 mg 3x day and it is kicking my bum! I am very sick and do not know if I can take this. My question is this - does this nausea go away and if not, is there a nausea drug other people take with the Mirapex?
Thanks

Dear "kellhug"
I am 53 and have been taking the same Mirapex dosage you mentioned for about a year. I never had any nausea, but I have battled sudden sleepiness - I'm almost narcoleptic if I sit still when I am tired! Needless to say, I don't drive unless I am very rested and have someone to talk to in the car!!
Others have mentioned taking Mirapex with food - does that work for you? Perhaps your Dr. can give you something to get you past the nausea until your body gets used to the new dose you are taking. I also take Azilect - maybe that combo has prevented the upset stomach reaction??
Good luck! I will be thinking of you and praying that your nausea passes soon.

Hi
I fully understand you and your fears.
And the nausea ohhh do I not
i was 38 yrs upon diagnosed and 39yrs when we adopted our son who was aged 6 months old when we got him 8 months after diagnosis.
Mirapexin is best taken with something to eat and it took over 3 months for it to settle down but i'm glad I perservered.
Im 46 yrs old now and push yourself to keep using the affected side, because if you don't use it you lose it.
Im not on the forum now very much due to fighting my employer to remain at work which takes up a lot of my time, but ask questions or look on the archive for answers if I dont get back to you soon enough
Keep safe

Don't despair and don't give up!
Every drug is different and every person responds to the medication differently, but these are potent chemical compounds we are forced to take. Your stomach is not really designed to handle the chemical compounds in the dose we have to take. So it is very common for people to have nausea, pain, lethargy and a host of unpleasant sensations when you start to take a new med.
Unfortunately these symptoms can linger for a long time and they can be very debilitating (I remember dry wretching in the toilets at lunch time at work after my mid day dose). The good news is that most of us do eventually get over this. It can take an awfully long time in some cases, but it will get better.
Keeping yourself positive is both the most difficult and the most important part of living with PD.
Hang in there,

Hi
I also have PD for 10yrs. I am on a lot of medication also, i have not had any side effects
Worrying is not going to help you. Stress, Anxiety, and Worry, we must avoid as they make our symptoms worse. Be Positive, do not think of the future, live one day at a time and look forward to tomorrow.
Medication gave me my life back, without it I would not be able to do anything for myself.
