I have a question about the medications prescribed to treat PD. Do they "slow down" the progression of the disease or just help ease the symptoms? My doctor has never really explained to me.:(
I am on Sinemet 3 x day and Azilect 1 x day. I am in stage one.
Any feedback would be appreciated!!

I am on Ladopa /cardopa three times a day......as I understand they only help the symptoms..............I am also on coq10 which like azilect is the only thing that my doctor suggest to slow down the process....but there is weak evidence

Hi pogo1960, Medication does not unfortunately slow down the progression of the disease but of course does ease the symptons. No one knows what causes PD and their is no cure. Right, that's the doom and gloom out of the way. Try and enjoy every day. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh. A keen sense of humour and seeing the funny side of life is as good as any medication. I get great support from my wife and the Leicester Branch. Your local Branch is there for you. If you have not already done so then do join them. Support nurses are the best people to talk to for advice. Consultants have limited time to see you but I have found that Branch members/officials do. Hope this helps - keep smiling :)

Hi ltd - addition,
I'm sorry to butt into this quote you sent to Ann. I'm in a little distress. I wrote you somewhere else in the Forum that I went to your Profile and got your e-mail address. I sent the information through with a little note and it was returned to me saying "UNDELIVERABLE - ADDRESS UNKNOWN".
So I thought I would send an instant message. I have never sent an instant message but I tried and it still wouldn't go through that way either. I feel so bad about this and I don't know what to do. I know you were going to work on my floral arrangement today but please be patient with me until I figure out how to send you my information. If you can give me any advice on what to do, I'd really appreciate it.
Hope you have a very good day. Looking forward to hearing back from you.
With love,
Margie :)

Just looked on your profile and a thought came to me. I was trying to send you an e-mail from my AOl on line site. Did you mean an e-mail you have here at the Forum? If so, please, where would I find it?
Thank you for walking me through all this. I know I'll get it.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Teacher,
Your report you hit a bulls-eye! The lack of confidence is slowly building into confidence . Your compliments are gratefully accepted. Boy, did they make me feel good...thank you! Also, enjoying my talents...that's another story. I must learn to enjoy my talents. I do love to do them but am always in a rush. Have to learn to slow down and enjoy the process of creating and then appreciate when done.
You are wise beyond your years.
Love,
Margie :)

Hi Cathy as I understand it, by the time you are diagnosed you have already lost 80 % of the cells in your brain which sends the signals to your body to instruct them to move. The signals are called dopamine.
Now the drugs can have different purposes
one drug can irritate the remaining 20% of the cells into producing more dopamine
another drug could mimic dopamine to a certain degree etc
So the drugs are to alleviate the symptoms , because with no cure yet it's all we got..
Every person is different and therefore only you & those in the know can determine how progressive it is by your symptoms & how well you respond to your medication.
If you and I took the same tablets we more than likely wont respond the same as each other. So in essence it's trial & error of whether we think a particular drug is slowing down the parker's or just the symptoms.
However being a spring Gazelle I look & respond better whilst on stage in my tutu ha haa ha only kidding ! (I wear it whilst out shopping )
Yes you guessed it I must put more water in it !!
On a serious note just enjoy how well you move from day to day I do !
Keep safe & Well
