do you live with your daughter and son-in-law ,or do they live with you
have you suggested they spend a day in wheel chair, bet they wouldn't cope half as well as you

Jim would add thick and easy to his drinks, he was getting lot's of chest infections because he was coughing he was what they call aspirating [ fluid was going in to his lung ]

hi sue, my swallowing is much better today so far, it started last year when i first went on to medication which was ropineral the higher the dose got the worse it became my husband was very scared he thought i was choking it would last for hours so my pd nurse decided to try patches and dispersable med,s which iam now on it works much better i still have bad days like yesterday but i just carry on regardless hope your swallowing improves dont worry to much am here if you want to talk again.

hi heather, thanks for for your advise i do try putting my chin on my chest and it does help its not quite as severe as when it first stared last year i would feel as though somthing was stuck in my throat causing me to have achoking sensation especially when i took my meds, it was quite frightening so am now on patches and dipersable meds i think my husband was more scared than me as it would last for hours sometimes, yes i have finished my painting and i would love a nice cup of tea hope jim is well today speak to you soon.

I have had a terrible day. My fathers parkinsons is getting worse by the day. We visited the neurologist yesterday and he wants to take my father into hospital to try him on another drug (can't remember the name, it's injected by a pump). My father is refusing to go into the hospital. No one can get him to see sense. He has nothing to lose and everything to gain if this new drug works. I just feel so frustrated!
I haven't given up though, God is good.

Hi Geraldine,
I'm so sorry that your father is giving you so much concern. Maybe someone other than you can make your father see the positive side of a new medication. He is probably reacting out of fear. He feels safe and comfortable in his home with you. Going to the hospital he will have to be with 'strangers' so to speak. You are both on the same side but a difficult time like this makes everything seem different and topsy/turvy.
Even though we are distant in miles, we are very close in friendship through this Forum. May I say a prayer with you over this Forum that God will grant your father the ability to accept what his neurologist is asking him to do and that God bless both of you with peace and trust.
Don't give up Geraldine. And try not to worry too much. You'll exhaust yourself. That won't do you or your father any good. Think of something really nice and concentrate on that as best as you can. This might help ease the stress just a little.
Talk with you soon.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.
With love,
Margie :)

hi geraldine, hope your dad will come to realise that the new meds will help him, i cant remember the name of the med, have you got a pd nurse maybe he/she would know someone on the same drug that might be willing to talk to your dad just to let him know the benefits of it sometimes it helps hearing it first hand and might give him a bit of encouragement to try it,goodluck with it and god bless.

May 14th, 2008, 08:09 AM
Hi, Geraldine. My husband has had PD for nine years. Sometimes he resists something, like your father is doing. Maybe it will help you to remind yourself that the new med will still be available in a week or a month, when your dad finally realizes that he needs to change meds. I have been trying lately to sit back and wait a little more than I used to. It is part of my personality that I want to do something to make things better, so I have to really work at letting him take the time he needs to make a hard choice himself.
I really hope the new meds will help. We have found that different meds can really work wonders. Has your dad been on his current meds for a long time?

Hi Susan,
I still haven't got my father to budge, but God's good! I have spoken to the Parkinsons nurse and she has offered to speak to my father. If he doesn't change his mind I will take the parkinsons nurse up on her offer.
The drug is called apomorphine. I have asked on the forum if anyone has had experience of it, but to date have had no replies.
Thanks for your support. Have a good day.
God bless

Hi Dianne,
My father has been on Madopar from when he was first diagnosed 7 years ago. The problem is that the side effects from the drug are actually intefering with my fathers general health. My worry is that my father is 75 years old and if his general health is damaged permanently then he won't get any benefit from any drugs. Also, the fact that the madopar is only working for about one hour in the morning. The rest of the day my father cannot even make himself a cup of tea. All he does is sit in an armchair and sleep. I look after all his personal care such as showering, shaving and dressing him. Before taking parkinsons my father was a very active man. He ran marathons, and exercised daily. He has practically lost all his muscle tone. I know I should be patient but..............
I am trying........................
As I told my father, if it was me that was in his position he would force me to go into the hospital. He just laughed.
If I didn't love him I would be in prison at this stage.
God bless
Geraldine

Hi, Geraldine. I am sorry your father is not doing very well right now. Is he being treated for depression? Do you think his inactivity might be due to depression as well as the meds wearing off so quickly? I wonder why your Dad must be hospitalized to change his meds.
My husband has been on various Rxs of levadopa (right now Stalevo) and Mirapex, and has done pretty well. Dr. has increased dosages several times and changed to controlled release. The physical symptoms get better after meds, for about 2-3 hours. His mental and emotional symptoms did deteriorate, and he is now on a generic Zoloft for depression and sleeping pills. When the meds were wearing off too fast, Dr. gave him Parcopa, which melts on the tongue, to give faster relief between doses of his regular meds.
I am so glad for you that you have a PD nurse to turn to. We so often feel that we are "shooting in the dark" when we try to figure out what is going on and whther to blame PD or the meds.
Your friend in Texas,
Diane
p.s. I would bet that prison is worse that PD.
p.p.s. We are coming to Ireland in July with my husband's sister and two of his brothers. Their grandparents were all born in Ireland and moved to America. My family is more than three generations from Ireland, but my maiden name was Grogan.

Hi Geraldine
sorry to hear dad is no better
Like Geraldine said, why does he have to go in hospital to have his medication regulated ?
"If I didn't love him I would be in prison at this stage."
put the kettle on,you may have to borrow some xtra cups , as some of your friends off he would be joining you
like i said before, we are only human, and we can only walk away so often, don't no about you ,but with one thing or another,it's the most simple things that set the fuse wire, like today ,Jim get's board in bed, and i had been to work then busy after, tea time , he refused to open his mouth,i no i gave him enough time, to think about it[register in his brain] but just wouldn't, so i just put his down and made my tea,sat down and ate it,re warmed his pudding,he new i meant business,so he ate it :D:D:D

Hi Heather
No it like a photo album .You work out the photos that you want.I am doing my wedding photos they were looking a bit tatty .I bought lots of paper with a wedding theme you can also buy stickers with a wedding theme . you use the stickers and wedding things like stickers of gloves champagne glasses ,doves rings anything to do with weddings .You can choose different coloured paper .I did mine with light coloured paper white beige pastel colours and you write a little about the photos .Next time you out and about have a look at the stationary departmenbt of the big stores .Over here they have shops especially for scrapbooking where they sell all that you would need.
If you were doing a family album you would put all the christmas photos and do a christmas theme Then you might do a beach theme or if your children do sport and you have a lot of sport photos do that .When i finish my wedding album I am going to do myself i have A LOT OF PHOTOS WHEN I WAS LITTLE AND WHEN I WAS A TEENAGER when I met ken my husband and all those photos .After that i will do the girls and their school days and weddings grandson ....I have boxes and boxes of photos ....There are heaps of stuff out there to buy to use for prettying up your pages .My mum and my sister have done it for about 5 years I used to think how could they get so excited about a few photos ....but it is fun I am hooked ..hope you can understand all this rambling look it up on the internet type in scrapbooking and you will get some pages up to have a look at

Hi Diane, Heather and Pauline,
I am sure that you have already read that my father has agreed to go into hospital to have his meds changed. My father has to go into hospital because he is so sensitive to medication. He has recently had drastic reactions to a few medicines and they have aggravated his general health. In fairness to him, if I had the experience that he had in hospital I wouldn't be too happy to go in. The December before last he was in hospital for a month and they would not let me take him home. He was taken in as an emergency case because his blood count was low. It turned out he had Helicobactor which caused the lining of his stomache to bleed. After they stabilised him he had a fall and they transfered him from the main ward to a so called 'rehabilitation centre' against my wishes (I wanted to rehabilitate him at home). They said that if I took him home they would no longer be responsible for him. It was a complete nightmare. The place they put him was for geriatrics only (which I think is wrong in itself. If someone is ill age should not determine treatment). The majority of the staff there knew nothing about Parkinsons and didn't want to know (some of them were good). At that stage the madapor was causing his blood pressure to drop when he stood up, which in turn made him fall. He was not allowed to go to the toilet on his own and very often when the staff got to him it was too late. I offered to stay with him during the day, but wasn't allowed. Also, the fact that he was stressed made his parkinsons become more obvious, problems with speech etc. I was never so glad to get him home! When he came home he couldn't walk. It took us over a month to get him back on his feet again.
The consultant has told him that this time he will stay in the neurology ward and will not be sent back to that other place. If I thought there was a chance of him going back to that hell-hole I wouldn't encourage him to go in. As it is, he has to come off madapor completely which will cause withdrawal symptoms and these topped with whatever reactions he might have to the new drug (apromorphine or apo-go - have you heard of it?), it might be safer for him to be in hospital.
Now that I have bored you! God bless,
Geraldine
PS I think I might have a go at this scap booking. We moved house 2 years ago and we have boxes and boxes of photos that haven't been unpacked. Sounds a good idea fro preserving them!

Hi Geraldine
hope you and Dad are doing OK
no wonder he didn't want to go back in bless him
When Jim went in as a emergency 2years ago [63] they put him on the Geriatric ward, i refused to leave him as no one bothered with him, and he was covered in B.O [dried]i went for a coffee and something to eat, and his dinner was still sitting there1/2 hour later
So i just refused to go, till i give him his night medication, before the choked him, and settled him down for the night, about 11pm leaving. i was back in by 7. am as i no they wouldn't give him a drink, medication or feed him
needless to say they didn't like me, but i didn't care, if it meant it was the only way he could get better, then so be it

Hi Heather,
Things still aren't back to usual. The fall really shook Tony up. We will be going to one of his doctors this Friday. I'm so glad.
I think you will see a marked improvement in Jim after he has been on Diazipam for a while. Some people it will work fast others it will take a little longer but it is a good medicine. I will pray that Jim is someone who will benefit 100% from Diazipam. God bless you both.

When things in your life seem almost too much to handle, when 24 hours in a day are not enough, remember this story about a mayonnaise jar and 2 cups of coffee...
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls.
He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor! next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous 'yes.'
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. 'Now,' said the professor, as the laughter subsided, ' I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life.
The golf balls are the important things-your God, family, your children, your health, your friends, and your favorite passions-things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.
The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your house, and your car. The sand is everything else-the small stuff.
'If you put the sand into the jar first,' he continued, 'there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important.'
So, pay attention to the things that are most important. Take care of your health--cook with your kids!-- spend time with those you love.
There's always time to clean the house--it's a never ending job anyway :-).
Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.
Wondering what the coffee represents?
No matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple cups of coffee with a friend--or a soda if you're like me and don't drink coffee!!
Please share this with someone you care about!

Hi, Geraldine. We are a large-ish group with 11 members, so my sister-in-law has arranged for a bus tour of Ireland, but I don't think it includes anything in Northern Ireland. We fly into Dublin and out of Shannon, with the bus tour going to Donegal, Galway, Connemara, Killarney, the Dingle Peninsula and Limerick. It is about nine days of touring. I know we will be tired and it might be hard to do, but we will have my Husband's sister and brothers to help out. It is really the trip of a lifetime for my Husband.

Hi Diane
I am sure you will love every min of it, and with all them family and friends you can't go wrong
when we went to ice land
my mum 81 then never flown before came with me and my daughter
the taxi was late picking us up in the morning
we got stuck in a traffic Jam
it was a few days after the bombings scare in London airport
when we got to Iceland , my daughter-in-law father car had broken down
we had to push Jim up hills to get a evening meal in the rain
I had my jewellery stolen from the hotel, which i din't miss till i got home
coming home in Iceland airport, we got stuck in a lift they had to get 4 men to lift Jim and wheelchair out and my mum
we went up3 lot's of stairs, but they took Jim around the airport, and through pass port control, guess who had his passport, yes me, they got security, who lucky, was 2 who had rescued him , we held the plane up for well over a hour, when we got on the plane i had to transfer, from chair to
seat as it was quicker, the pilot came out and asked what all the trouble was, so i turned around ,nearly dropped Jim, and said, we thought we would have a picnic in the lift, he just gave me such a look, so i shouted have a nice day
other wise it went very smoothly , but loads to remember, and we still laugh about it, and yes i would go back again tomorrow

Hi Diane,
I am probably biased because I am from Ireland, but I can assure you you will have a ball. It's a beautiful country. I won't be in Ireland when you are there as I will be working in Romania. I work for an overseas aid organisation and spend 7 weeks of the year in Romania (4 of those in July). I love my job, but now with my father the way he is, things are quite difficult. The job has it's good points in that for the time that I am not in Romania I can take my father to all his appointments and work at home whenever he needs me. For the time that I am away my brother and his wife look after him. I am finding it harder and harder to leave my father as I know he is not happy when I am not there, but if I did any other job I couldn't keep him at home. I am stuck between a rock and a hard place!
God bless

Hi Diane,
The west coast of Ireland is amazing. I did a tour from Belfast to Donegal down the west coast and finished up in Kerry a few years ago. I was travelling on my own,but kept saying, (out loud.......) "isn't that beautiful", "oh my", "oh wow". The trip still brings smiles to me. There is a beautiful lake near Kylemore Abbey outside Galway, it is equisite especially early morning if the sun is rising and the dew/mist is sitting on the lake! Also, see if you can go via Westport, which is also a great town.
Enjoy yourselves, you will have a super time. My godfather does quite a bit of touring, so I will ask him of some nice spots for meals etc. and he loves teashops, some which are unique and he visits time and time again.
Have a good day.

Hi Sue,
Yes, Tony is feeling a bit better. He is still very unsteady from the fall. His both legs freeze on him sometimes when he is walking. But his spirits are improving and with that I think other good things will follow.
It's so good of you to ask about him.

Hi Margie,
I had a lovely day. I have a holiday home in Newcastle (where the mountains of Mourne reach down to the sea) and my father and i went there for the weekend. We only came home tonight. My brother, wife and family have a holiday home next door to ours so they were there also and my father got the opportunity to enjoy 3 of his grand children. The weather was beautiful. Although my father is not great at the minute (as you know he is waiting to get his medication changed) he enjoyed the company and the change of scenery. When my father was in good health him and I along with some friends used to spend quite a bit of time walking in the Mourne Mountains.

Hi, Margie. what a great holiday you and dad had! Were you able to stay a couple of days? Like Drew, we are staying close to home on this holiday because of the high cost of gasoline. Our brief spring has finished and the day is hot and dry today. We need rain, but not likely to get any for several more days. It is sunday afternoon. Tomorrow is the bank holiday, and we will be cookingout and staying in the shade. Diane

Hi Geraldine,
That's great that you were able to have a holiday in Newcastle. The way you describe it sounds very beautiful. I can picture it in my mind's eye. Being that your brother, wife and his family were able to be there at the same time must have been a happy time for you. Your father, I'm sure in his own way enjoyed the Family gathering and seeing three of his grandchildren. He might not be able to express his feelings at this time of how good it made him feel...but I am so very sure he did enjoy it.
Maybe, God willing, with the new medication your father will be receiving...you both might still in the future enjoy a brief stroll near the Mourne Mountains once again. I've seen, first hand, good things come from a medication change. Maybe your father will be blessed this way also. I hope so for both of you.
Thank you for sharing your holiday with me. It made me happy to hear that you were able to get away from your everyday surroundings for a little time. It is good for you.
Tony is not doing too well these last few days. I think it is still remnants of his fall. We'll be celebrating our 46th Wedding Anniversary Monday. Our son Frank, his wife Miriam and their six children will be coming up from Virginia to join the rest of our Family to celebrate. Maybe seeing everyone, Frank and Family, our daughter Kathy, Steve and two children, our son Christopher and me :) will brighten his day.
God Bless.

Hi Heather,
My day has been successful in photobucket (so far) but my son Chris is not very feeling well.
All he is doing to help and Tony's falls, etc. are getting to him. I think he is starting to get depressed. I've spoken to him about going to a doctor and he told me he won't go to anyone. He went to bed a little while ago without eating. He has done this a few nights. I am really worried but there is nothing I can do unless he cooperates. He's a grown man...it's not like when the children are little...you can take them to a doctor.
He didn't even go with us to celebrate with the Family for our anniversary. I'm afraid for him and I see what it's doing to Tony. We'll get through this I know. It's just scary for now.
Please keep us in your prayers.
Talk with you soon.
Love,
Margie :)

I am so sorry to read this post, as you said he is a grown man, but you must be open and honest with him
You must tell him you have enough stress caring for Tony
and if anything happens to you ,what will happen to them, sorry but you will have to talk to him straight, We no stress is no good for PD, but as a carer,i personally no what it does to carers, when i get stressed i lose weight, get headaches, as my blood pressure goes up,other times my blood pressure is perfect, I lose sleep, and find it difficult to concentrate on a day to day bases.
So please my Friend talk to him, tell hi how it is affecting you

My day has been nice but frustrating. I spent most of today at the hospital with my father. The staff are all lovely. Evern though it is a very busy ward they can't do enough for him. I didn't have to aks for his medication once, it was all spot on time.
Now the frustrating bit, a doctor told my father last night that he would be going to theatre this morning to have his volvulus straightened as there was no way that it would correct itself. The consultant told my father this morning that he would not be going to the theatre as the problem was sorting itself out. Who do you believe? The consultant also told him that he would probably get home tomorrow.
My father has not received any sort of treatment, nor is their any talk of starting any treatment and the problem still exists. I know that by the end of this week or next we will be back to the same position. My father's volvulus will be twisted and his stomache distended. I am going to discuss this with a doctor tomorrow so please keep us in your prayers.
God bless

Dear Heather,
I just found this thread today. The advice and backup you gave me is something that I need so much. I talked with Chris and told him how I feel. I backed it up with a lengthy three page e-mail.
What he responded is: Oh Mom, you worry too much. He's a good man but he marches to the tune of a differnt drummer. I have spoken to Tony too and asked him to talk with Chris. He has. Maybe with both of us talking with Chris, it will make an impression. His brother Frank wanted to talk with him (over phone) and he hung up on his brother. Kathy tried too but to no avail. But please believe me, you writing what you did...and me knowing you are there for me (all of us, I should say) is a tremendous comfort to me. Thank you so much dear Heather. I'm sorry for me...that I just discovered this post today.

I am starting to get headaches and stomach aches, plus I hurt my back and can't get around too easily these last few days. Saw doctor, he said it is severe sciatica and it will take quite a few weeks before I'm back in shape again. Oh well, enough of that already.

Hi Margie,
I am so sorry to hear that you are not feeling great. I hope that your talk with Chris has helped both you and him. I can see how this must be effecting you both. There are no truer words than those spoken in the old British Telecom advertisement 'It's good to talk' (you wouldn't have seen this add). One of my brothers steps in to help with my dad when I am away. He would also help out when I am under pressure. The fact that we both have full time jobs and he also has a family means that at times we are both under a lot of pressure. In the past we would end up snapping at each other and at times my brother would stop talking to me. When he did that I would just ignore the fact and keep talking to him. Experience has taught us both to take time to talk to each other and to discuss how looking after dad effects us both. Also, through talking we now know when the other one is under pressure and so help out. My brother will visit dad a bit more and I would keep his children the odd night/weekend to allow him and his wife to go out for the night or go away.
I think being a carer causes you to harbour a lot of guilt. I often feel guilty because I don't give my dad enough time, or because I sometimes resent the time I have to give him. I also feel guilty because I don't give enough time to other family members for eg my nephews and nieces and my friends. I also feel guilty because at times I just want to take time for myself and then I feel guilty when I do take time for myself.
On top of all this guilt we also add worry. I worry that I don't have the energy to look after my dad or to do my job properly. My greatest worry is that my dad will become so bad that he will have to go into a care home.
We can't make the guilt or worry go away, but what I usually find is if I talk about it with my brother or with a good friend it all really mounts to nothing. I also find that sometimes (depending on what the issue is) it also helps to talk to dad about it. The biggest friend parkinsons has is secrecy as this leads to stress. The best way of beating it is to bring things out of the dark and into the open. As I have said, 'it's good to talk'.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers.
God bless
Geraldine

Hi Susan,
I don't call it blunt...I call it positive help. You threw me a life preserver when I was sinking. I agree with you...most likely the stress here is making my body react in a negative way. The stress here in our home at the present moment is so thick you could cut it with a knife.
Just a little while ago got an unexpected visit from our daughter and one of our grandsons, with some groceries. It was such a nice surprise.
THE ONLY WAY FROM DOWN IS UP. I needed to be reminded of that. Thank you for doing it for me.

hope your day is better today stress does funny things ..Last night we had a meeting at work (I work in a Family Day care scheme )we were introducing new policy and procedures to our carers .and i had to hand them out to each carer.Do you think my fingers would work,I had to pass 4 down one side of the table and 5 down the other side of the table .Talk about fumble fingers, they wouldn't work .kept on having one over or not enough they were sticking together and my fingers would not work.the more i tried the worse i was .The carers reckon that i should come to their houses for care and learn to count.LoL We survived but i was glad when the day was over

Hi Heather,
Oh...I love Teddy Bears and what you wrote for me is special to my heart. How did you know? Guess besides being an excellent teacher, you are also a person with good intuition. I need your Teddy Bear to hug me through both the day and the night. The comfort of our friendship will come through in my Teddy Bear...I really need it right now. I'm fine...I just need that Teddy Bear near.

We are trying very hard to have good days. Tony is giving his best effort. The last week or so he has been unable to walk at times. Like today Chris, Tony and I went out for a car ride and stopped to go in to a local store. Tony walked a few steps and Chris had to almost carry him back to the car. His legs are stiffening up on him. It was very humid out today and Tony was tired...so that could be what influenced his legs today. I pray that it was.
How is it in your household? Is Jim feeling good? What's the news on the special cushion? Have they approved it for him yet? I hope so. Dear Heather, how are you feeling? Let me know...okay?
Talk to you soon again.
Margie :)

Hi Susan,
One day has been running into another at our house. i can't seem to think straight. You are right, I will keep my chin up. The conflict between my son and daughter seems to be a thing of the past. It's still not the way it was but it is definitely better :).
Yes, Kathy bringing groceries and my grandson Christopher to visit was a nice gesture. I love to see them.
Tony's legs are giving him a great deal of trouble. Hope we can get something to make them feel better.
Hoping you have a really nice day. Talk with you soon.
God bless you too.

Hi All
Dear Margie
Please be careful, don't forget your body has a way of shutting down ,and i think it's trying to warn you to rest
Thank you for the hugs as you will have guest i have snagged it, thank you
Give Tony a hug off me in exchange
Dear Heather,
Yes, my body is rebelling. I just can't seem to sit down long enough to relax. If I keep going like this it won't be good for anyone. I better take your advice, dear friend, or I feel that I will be in big trouble...and we don't want Mr. Trouble around here.
So you have snagged my hugs. That's what you are supposed to do...hugs are special...just for you :)!

Hi Margie
you are always welcome to a hug, my grandson is hear, and keeps asking for hugs, as he know's , Naine loves hugs
Two little questions
Is Tony using a stick
Have you noticed if his legs, feet or ankles are welling
this can so make it difficult to walk, Jim's feet did , so every time he sat down,he elevated his feet high,
I also found if we where going out , he was going to do some walking, he had one or two pain tablets took it about 1/2 hour, as he has arthritis in both his feet and knees

Hi Heather,
No, Tony refuses to use a stick. He also won't put up his legs because he says it makes him uncomfortable during the day. But in the night when he wakes up from sleep in bed, after he is catheterized, he goes to sleep on the sofa. We have a reclining sofa sectional and he then wants to go in the reclining position. He says it lets the next catheterization produce more urine. I think he is afraid of urimic poisioning...his Mom died from that and other complications.
His legs and arms, hands do swell. He is on a diuretic when these occur. Chris got some Glucosamine tablets for us which are supposed to help with pain and swelling in the joints. It has two more ingredients that help lubricate the joints and make moving easier. I am so desperately hoping these will help. It looks like a good product.
He is a very stubborn man and will not lightly give in to using help aids. He still doesn't talk about his PD. If love would only give him the ability to let us share some of his thoughts, maybe it would help him a bit.
I will definitely pass that little brown, cuddly teddy bear around. The other 'little guy' too.
Come join me Heather... http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/Bronx628Margie/haveagreatday.gif I'll be waiting for you.
Love,
Margie

Hi Margie
Jim has a Catheter, he did intermittent, for a short time, but found it was restricting us trying to find clean toilets when out, he now can drink as much as he needs,[2-3 liters of water] to keep his urine patent, only thing it does make them lazy as it's one less walk, but Jim was falling every time he went to the bathroom, and sometimes couldn't get up again, or would dribble before getting to the Lou, so you have to weigh up what is the best
raising the legs, does help pass more urine, as the water from his feet etc, drains and gives something for the kidneys to work with,
for want of a better phrase ,I have been so lucky with Jim, as he had a very bad fall early on, and broke a big hard wooden coffee table, and hurt himself badly, it frighten him, and from there on he used his stick, or pushed himself in his wheel chair, to the stair chair, when i was in work. It would so help if he would, you could all do so much more together, but also he could do more on his own, with out you worrying
Jim had septicaemia due from a massive urine infection, he didn't tell me , as he was emptying his bag him self , and so when i changed his catheter, it made it worse,
Are not all men stubborn :D;)
Glad you like huge bare, he loves hugs

hope your day is better today stress does funny things ..Last night we had a meeting at work (I work in a Family Day care scheme )we were introducing new policy and procedures to our carers .and i had to hand them out to each carer.Do you think my fingers would work,I had to pass 4 down one side of the table and 5 down the other side of the table .Talk about fumble fingers, they wouldn't work .kept on having one over or not enough they were sticking together and my fingers would not work.the more i tried the worse i was .The carers reckon that i should come to their houses for care and learn to count.LoL We survived but i was glad when the day was over
Sue
Sue,
Sorry your fingers didn't cooperate with you last night. You were probably a bit nervous thus it send signals to your fingers to react the way they did. But, see...as you said..."We survived...". I would be glad the day was over too. But tomorrow is another day and we get to try all over again. That's what Tony and I try to live by. We are successful most of the time...but the other times...We are glad those particular days pass. I know just what you mean.
Bet you could share this feeling with me...when I was working and we had meetings...this is the way I felt after they were over http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn88/Bronx628Margie/confetti.gif.
Thanks for writing. Talk again soon.

Sue, I have the same problems with my fingers. Luckily the people I work with understand and when we are at meetings with a group of people, my co-workers will authomatically pitch in and start passing out my handouts so I don't have to fumble with them. They don't make a big production out of it, so know one else knows why thet are helping me out. It has eased a lot of stress for me. It was amazing how sressed out I would become at the thougt of passing out paper in front of strangers.

No way will I ever say "shut up" to you susan. When someone like you cares enough to write to me and help me feel better...I listen well, with both ears...and my heart.
Yes, I would relax a bit if Tony would only use the sticks and any other aids the doctors have suggested. I am trying my best to keep healthy...but at times my body does rebel at the stress. Have to take a little time for myself once in awhile. I haven't started painting a picture for several weeks. The days run into each other. I'm going to make a little time for me to do some painting and/or sketching. It'll be fun.
Hope you are having good days and restful, peaceful night. I think of you often and do so appreciate you writing to me.

Heather (P) here, just found this enormous thread.
Saw all the familiar names and had to have my two-pennuth. Sorry many of you have been feeling poorly, colds at this time are hell, ad hen someone says 'just a cold' well I could *!$@*
My 'bum' is getting better so I am feeling better, no bones broken the X-ray told us - not adviseable to fall heavily on the base of your spine, not designed for it my friendly doc says...
To-day I am, for the first time ever, doing a reading in Church. i gave up going years ago, for no special reason. but have taken to attending a couple of times a month, don't think I have found religion but get some comfort from the beautiful building, the people and the music.
Spending the rest of the day quietly with Mike, it is absolutely tippling down so no gardening.
I will tell you later, whether you wnt to know or not how I got on, my voice is not what it was, I lose my voice when my throat muscles go on strike, but they have a 'mike' so I should be okay.
Hope all you poorly people are feeling a little better to-day.
Take care of yourselves. HeatherP

Hi Sue, Just read your above post a few minutes ago. I'm a bit late catching up.
Yes, I do consider you my friend. You've cheered me up when I was down in the past; you've been concerned when I was having difficulty coping with Tony's PD; you've helped me much even if you weren't aware of it...that's what friends do.
In the past I had posted some paintings of mine. I have deleted them from photobucket and I hadn't realized that when I deleted them from photobucket...they were also deleted on the Forum site. I'll have to try to get them back on here again for you to see.
I like to paint flowers and water scenes. Also, a few occasional pictures of animals. I haven't done much lately but want to so much. Must make time to do this hobby that I love so much.
Hope to speak with you soon again.
May your Tuesday be a very good day!

Morning all. Saturday was great, decided at 6.30 am to go to Oswestry shopping, needed some items to help with my card-making.
Visited M & S (Marks & Spencer for the uninitiated), arrived home to find we had an invitaton for lunch by some very good friends. Arrived there at 11 am, coffee, chatted, a lovely lunch, helped with the washng up and realised it was 4.15 pm, a long lunch. Finally arrived back home 6 pm and watched the Qualifying for the German Grand Prix, which we had recorded on Sky Plus. i was happy as Lewis Hamilton finished on Pole. Looking forward to the Race to-day. Then heard that my family had arrived home safely from their holiday, Up at 5.15 am and looking forward to another day.
Have a good one. VBW. Heather (Prill)

Sue, I would be lost without my computer. What kind of work do you do? I think I have located the weight you lost. You can have it back any time. I was hoping to lose it before my vacation, but it is sticking around. You'll be going on vacayion while I am gone so have a great one too. Gail
From Heather W. just skimming through this very very long thread, found a couple of items I had forgotten I had written.
Never know right place to join in. No answers anyway.
Saw diazaphan mentioned earlier, two tablets will be required tomorrow, 1 Sept. as I am off to Dentist, 2 fillings. Sure he makes them up to get the cash...
Oh well, will let you know if I survive.
take care. Heather W(Prilll)

Heather, It is hard to locate and reply to all the threads. I keep finding old ones that seem to appear out of nowhere. Don't let that dentist take too much of your cash. I can't believe it is September already.
Sue, sounds like you stay busy. It is nice that you were at least able to stay working in a field you enjoy. I did day care 23 years ago when my kids were little. I enjoyed it, but went through a divorce and needed a job with benefits, so went to work for the State of California.
I am packed and ready to go on vacation. I worked this weekend so I could catch up a little before I left. I just hope my daughter waits until I get back to have the baby. She isn't due until Oct 1, but looks miserable. I am beginning to question the wisdom of planning my vacation so close to her due date. But it was now or wait a year and she wouldn't hear of that. Talk to you later

From Heather W, To Gail and indeed all of you on this chatty thread. First Gail, I am sure the grandchild will wait for you, well.... maybe, fingers crossed plus everything else, but if your daughter is fed up maybe sooner the better.
Nice to read about all your activities, good to get to our, no sorry, my age, sure I am older than all of you, grandchildren are so much fun.
Thank you, yes I survived the Dentist, two fillings, but had taken my diazapan! I find I can't breathe, can take air in but not let it out, I hate this lying back. Still at least I don't get toothache, and my Dentist is charming, good being chatted up even if it is all a joke. Mike my husband had to have a filling also and together the treatment cost £200+. Needed a strong drink after that but as I have moreorless given it up, unless there is a very good excuse and then,,wow. We settled for lunch out, once my face had thawed, problem teeth were at the front and for a while felt as if I had been kicked in the mouth.
We are off for a long weekend on 24 September, there is a large white Hotel called The Trefeddian high on a hill at Aberdovey, I saw it first about 30 years ago and said I would love to stay in such a gorgeous place
At last we are able to go there, in fact have been doing so for about 10 years, two or three trips a year, very costly but well worth it, have a suite on the top floor looking out over cardigan bay, and are treated like royalty I love it. After a tenting holiday a few years ago now I said 5 stars or nothing, and that is how it is now. Spoilt I know.
I must make a list of where you all reside. I cann't remember and feel that is rude, and when I said chiropodist the other day and was asked what that was, I realised how lucky we are that we can all chat to each other, living in so many different countries speaking a variety of languages, and life styles, with different medical support. I bless the day I was forced to try out a Computer. Best thing I ever did, well one of them.
i think, if you don't mind I will ask a few questions, I am writing a book, no, wrong, a report, an essay or something on life before and with Parkinson's and need some information.
I am amazed how much I have learnt about PDS since joining this forum. I think it was a wonderful idea.
i have prattled on long enough. I have a problem and chatting takes my mind of it. I live in a small village and think I am going to upset a few people, good or bad idea? There are sayings for everything, I wonder if it is true that "silence is golden' or another one "should I take the tiger by the tail?"
Should people be allowed to get away with upsetting people or should they be faced with things. I have to live here I guess so will have to decide. I shake violently when under stress but don't think I can just sit back. Oh well days to go....
Good Luck to you all, have good holidays and blessings on the new arrival when it comes, keep us informed.
Its a pleasure to speak to you all. Heather Wilmot

I googled the Treffedian Hotel and I am jealous. That area looks beautiful. I would imagine it is worth the price. I may have to add that to my long list of places I want to go.
I would have had the drink after spending $200 at the dentist. That is kind of like spending a lot of money on underwear that no one will ever see. But I guess it has to be done. Actually, I have to have a bridge made and I shudder to think what that will cost me. So I will be drinking when I find out.
I am from California. I enjoy visiting with everyone from different parts of the world and learning new words such as chiropodist. I especially enjoy when you prattle on. (That is another new word me so I needed to use it in a sentence).
I am a silence is golden kind of person but I have a sister who likes to take the tiger by the tail. The problem is, she and I look so much a like, that I get accused of speaking my mind, when it was her. She is always calling me and telling me I might want to stay away from someplace she has just been, because she told them what she thought.
Ok, now I have prattled on, (just wanted to use my new word again). My youngest daughter and I are going to the movies then out to dinner.
Sue, My daughter said if I was going to laugh at you for taking the wrong medicine that I should confess that I once swallowed an earring back in the middle of the night because it was on my nightstand next to my pills.

Hi, I enjoy your 'prattle'--it all sounds so folksy!!! I am more of a silence is golden person than a take the tiger by the tail person.
Our grand daughter gave birth Saturday morning to a 9 pound 9 ounce boy. My daughter, her mother, had come up from Nevada to Spokane, WA to help her when the baby comes--only thing is that the baby was so long overdue that our daughter is scheduled to fly home tomorrow when the baby will only be 3 days old.
We plan on Thursday to take a day just to 'ding around.' We want to go to the area of Leavenworth (which looks very much like in the Alps) and find a nice camping place. We both love camping. One of my sisters and her husband will probably join us. Happy vacation to you.

I am sure your daughter will be making a trip back to see the baby real soon. 'Ding Around', that is a new one for me and you aren't even from another country. I have never been to Spokane, but I have a friend who lives in Vancouver, Washington that I go to see frequently. I googled Leavenworth and it looks beautiful too.
I will practice using 'ding around' in a sentence too. You can tell I three teachers in the family. I always have to use my new words in a sentence.
Have fun campling. Gail

Heather W here, how lovely to get such quick responses, how I wish at times I was a 'silence is golden' sort of person, but we are what we are, and as we get older I find that, I at least don't particularly worry what other people think of me, so as long as we don't deliberately hurt someone then we should be able, within reason, to please ourselves. 'ding around' is lovely. Wonder where all these sayings, words, come from. Not surprising I guess that we all have a few words or sayings, not heard of by those from other countries, as people from other 'counties' in UK have not heard of them either.
Just been to get the evening paper for my husband, yes he is MY carer, but I also take care of him. this area is headlines at the moment. The next village to us is famous, or infamous at the moment, the home of a multi-millionaire was burnt down, arson expected but the family of 3 were missing. Sadly they have now found 3 bodies, wife shot in head and identified. However unidentified as yet but I guess they are pretty sure that they are the husband and daughter of 17. Horses and dogs had also been shot and buildings set on fire. What happens to make people do such things. it really is a very quiet part of Wales, on the Powys/Shropshire border.
All very sad.
Congratulations on the new arrival, a real blessing. As I have said before, 'if I had known grandchildren were so much fun I would have had them first' . One of the best things is when you are exhausted you can give them back.
Yesterday I was thinking about life generally after my Dentist said my one tooth looked a little worse for wear, I said they should as they were nearly as old as me. to which he replied 'Oh, nearly 16 then!' told you he is charming even if he is expensive! He queried whether I would like to be 16 again to which I replied no 40/50 would be lovely, Rachel his Nurse asked had they been my happiest years, and I had to say truthfully, 'no, they had all been pretty good except the last 7 after Mr Parky came to stay, and even they could have been worse, I have made lots of new friends, now 'prattle' with all of you, it is nice to hear your stories, we cann't talk about PD all the time can we....
One last quick sentence, I have been married 45 years, good ones. Have one son, 42, two grandsons, 4 and 7, and lovely daughter-in-law. Very nice house, with plenty to do and places to go. What more could I ask.
well......I guess there is something but mustn't be greedy.
Have a good day. Thinking of you all. Heather W
How was that for a load of 'prattle' is it also 'dinging around'?
or do I have the wrong meaning?

Hello to all. I just prattled on for about 30 minutes and when I hit reply it said I wasn't logged on and I lost my prattle. I will try again, but am not a happy camper.
I began by complaining that I have a cold and feel miserable. I think it is my punishment for going on so much about my vacation. I have two days to get rid of it.
Heather, I googled Tryphenia (yes I google everything) and came up with: From the Greek name Τρυφαινα (Tryphaina), derived from Greek τρυφη (tryphe) meaning "softness, delicacy". This name is mentioned briefly in the New Testament. It also indicated that it was a rare name. So, since you appear to be a vert rare person, I think the name is very fitting.
Mary, your husband is correct. The children don't go away when the get married, they just bring someone else home wirh them
Ok, that is the Readers Digest version. The rest of my prattle will need to wait. I need to get some sleep. Gail

I do hope you and your husband are OK. It is unusual that you haven't posted in the last few days, lets hope there is nothing wrong.

Hi Girls
I'm OK
I forgot to move my modem, and my parrot Major, throw his water all over it :(:(, and only got to town yesterday for a new one, as i started to decorate living room, and had to do it in sections, in case the paint went on Jim chest, the paint for the radiators was the worse, and just for something to do, built a new posh, glass top stand for the TV
