Hello -- I'm new to this forum. I'm 59 and diagnosed 4 yrs ago with PD. The PD is affecting my right side only and I can't write very good (extremely small). I've also started showing signs of rigidity and had a few falls due to my balance. I've just started lowest dose of Sinemet CR but so far no change. My biggest problem is my right vocal cord is paralyzed (dr's say neurological disorders play a role in this).
I've had this for 6 mo's now and it affects my breathing (shortness of breath because I'm not getting enough oxygen in my body). The Laryncologist has given me Botox injections into the vocal cord, but to no avail -- now all my drs are saying I need a tracheotomy ---- Gawd, what next!! My question is "does anyone else have this problem that can relate to my anxiety about this???"

Hi Guy's

Yes I understand you both

Yes to both of you Angel Ali and Bonster, its Parkers causing your problems.

Bonster ask for valium or Diazepam 2mg to take as required. It is a muscle relaxant. The more stressed you get the worse your restriction and breathing. It is your bodies way of showing your stressed.

Angel Ali it is muscle spasms it's Parkers. If you think about it your chest muscles due to the infection were going into spasm and that was the last pain your brain remembers, so it as though it stuck thinking of your last pain.
Stretch off , deep breath . stretch your body off, as though you are trying to remind your brain to look at the other movements and to tease it away from just staring at your chest and remembering the pain that was associated with it.

Ask for a muscle relaxent it should help

I hope you both get the correct treatment you can
Keep safe and Merry Christmas

Hi from Drew
Ltd Addition is right. I can take up to 6 Diazapam daily (rarely) when super stressed. The good thing about diaz is that has a double good effect. Initialy it is an anti-depressent with almost immediate effect but also it it is a muscle relaxent. So the scenario - get uptight for whatever reason and muscles in wherever in your body react and clam up. Depending on the severity of the muscle contraction take two diaz immediately. This in most cases should be enough to relieve the situation very quickly. If not you can take up to 6 2mg diaz daily. Do not exceed this dosage as you can then become reliant on this drug. Like most drugs you can become dependant on them. Sinemet is the same. Bottom line is - never, NEVER excede what has been prescrbed to you by your doctor or consultant. The consequences can be really bad for your future. If you overdose on sinemet it can bring on dyskanesia and dystonia. Check out your search engine for how this can affect you. Neither are nice believe me. Not through any fault of my own I occasionally get dysanesia in my right foot - dystonia in my right ankle and left hand. I thought my left hand was writer's cramp but due to the severity when it does kick in I have been assurred by my consultnat that it is dystonia. It is not nice - believe me. Thankfully does not happen often but when it kicks in (no warning) it hurts like hell!
Having said all that I consider myself fortunate in what I have to put up with on a daily basis.
If you are feeling sorry for yourself and dwelling in self pity just look around you and you will find loads of people much worse off than you so be grateful you are alive and have friends that you can call. Live for today. Do not be afraid of tomorrow. Tomorrow may never come. Enjoy - smile - laugh and keep company with those that make you smile.
I call via webcam ltd addition almost daily. She is a tonic as are the rest of my friends be it via webcam or phone or text. How you do it is not important - what is that you DO IT.
Do not put it off - communication is the icing on the cake of life.
My wife Elaine and I have migrated from England to Scotland to look after my Mum and it is tough for us because we know so very few people up here but we will get involved in the local committees and other get-togethers available in the villlage to enhance our lives. Do not hide away, you will only get more and more morose and is that what you really want? I don't think so. You have to make the effort, you cannot hope that people will come to you - will not happen, so extract the digit "pull your finger out" and just DO IT. Nobody owes you a life - you want a life? Put yourself about and make the effort - you will be surprised the feed back that can be achieved. It is up to you.
Aplologies for going on a bit but we are going through this scenario currently and by writing this it has helped me. I hope it helps others as well,
Have as good a day as you can
Drew

Hi Bonster
my husband Jim has a illness that mimics PD, he has lost his speech, and if not careful chokes, which means what every thing he is drinking etc, goes into his lungs, and not gullet.
he was going through a stage where his joints where so stiff i was having a problem to dress him etc. I took Drew's advice and started him on Diazapam 2 mg and with in days he was so different, I now give it him when he starts to get frustrated/stressed ,
A tracheotomy, seems very drastic, your vocal cord should not interferer with your breathing, how is your swallowing refluxes?
Angel Ali
do you find this happens more when you get more stressed
it sounds more like a little panic attack, or it could be because of the nasty chest infection, it has left some scaring on your lung, Jim has had so many this year, it has left him with the same problem, and is not able to cough, so he cant bring up the muck , i find by leaning him over the bed, head down, and gently patting between his shoulders with a cupped hand, it does help [postal drainage]

Hi to all of you who responded to my first intro --- unfortunately I wasn't able to respond sooner, as I was in hospital for the last 2 weeks, as they had to do an emergency tracheotomy on me, as my breathing got so bad, the dr's basically told me if I didn't have it immediately I was going to die --- No choice -- they say I'll have it permanently, but I'm hoping their wrong -- never say never, right???
Now that the breathing is under control, I can concentrate on what meds I need to be on for PD. Currently I'm taking sinemet cr (200/50 cut in half) -- one at breakfast & one at supper) ,,,,, the rigidity is still there.
