Hello everyone,

I hope I am posting in the right area...anyways I am very interested in the DBS surgery!!! I recently went to a seminar to learn more about DBS and was blown away by the results. There were several individuals there who had the surgery and were very pleased with the results.

I was able to see a woman turn hers off and she needed assistance walking and her tremor began and her voice began to shake. She then turned it off and walked fine, lost the tremor, and regained the loudness back of her voice. Is this too good to be true?!

My mom has pd and has slowed down the past three years so much. It is really hard for me to see her lose many daily abilities I take for grantated. I just want to help her in any way possible. I really got exicted when being introduced to the DBS.

Please share with me any positive or negitive ideas, stories, or experiences with DBS! Thank You!

Hi. I don't have any information, but I am very interested in knowing if this is a help for the symptoms you describe. Our neuro told us that the DBS is mostly for people whose major symptom is tremors. He did not recommend it for my husband, who does not have tremors, but mostly stiffness, slowness, shuffling and mental deterioration.

I hope someone on the forum will have some better information or news.

Diane

Hi Diane
My Neurologist is one of the surgeons who performs DBS I have met 2 of his patients. He will only do the procedure if dx for 8 yrs or more or if dyskanesia is excessive.
It can take a while to tweek and whilst 1 is looking good the other is having difficulties.
I have not seen them in a whilst however a 3rd decided to go for the medication direct into the stomach, I'm yet to contact him to establish if sucessful.
I am fortunate since my consultant is a leading Neurologist in the Parkers field.
If I find out any more I'll update you all
