Before my husband got on medication for PD he was acting out his dreams. He was always fighting or something was after him. He would be kicking or punching while in the bed. Lots of times he would just yell out and holler really loud. I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. After he got on meds it got much better. Every now and then he will have a spell. He can be dangerous to sleep with because one time he did hit me in the ear really hard. I was thinking of getting separate beds. There were lots of times I would be a wake and know he was getting ready to punch so I would turn away from him so he wouldn't hit me in the face. I didn't know if this was a symptom of PD.

The acting out of dreams was the first sympton that sent us to the doctor for help. It was a very frightening experience. In the beginning I would try to wake up my husband but he would bring me into his dream and fight with me. I learned just to watch to make sure he was safe but not engage him. They first treated him for sleep apnea but then suggested a battery of neurological tests which ruled out all but PD. He has been treated with several medications all of which caused side effects worse than the symptoms of PD. He is now on a low dose of Requip and if he can tolerate that the dosage will be increased slowly.

I asked my pd support group whether they had violent dreams and they all said yes ! I too have such dreams as described and in the end I decided to have separate beds in case I injured my wife. Subsquently in one of my dreams I shot out of bed and ran into the bedroom window luckily I did not break the window but had quite a bruise afterwards. this has happened since i had pd so maybe some special meds are needed.

Hello to all of
I don't act out my dreams I have bad dreams. I wake my husband up screaming.I've never had bad dreams but now I do now for about four to five months. My medication is the same and nothing else has changed. I just give my husband a good scare. This happens about once a week to about once every two weeks.Does this also happen to any one else?

I get them too, my dreams are aggressive and I yell and cuss, waking my daughter and boyfriend. It scares them when it happens. I woke up recently punching my pillow. I see my doctor in July and this will be a topic of discussion.

my hubby Jim [who has a illness that mimics PD ]got them, and would hit and kick out or scream and argue with him self, his doctor put him on Tegratol RetardM/R 200mgm twice a day ,It took about a week to kick in ,and about 3 weeks after, was cut to 200mgm at night he hasn't had any since then
Please remember Jim's illness only mimics PD , and PD medication doesn't work for him, only sinemet ,stops the shaking
Hope this might help

Just been surfing through the various sub sections and came across dreams. I have violent dreams and shout/strike out at whatever I am dreaming about. I have no recall what I have been dreaming about but Elaine tells me in the morning. As it is so common I presume it must be a by-product of PD.

I've been disgnosed for 4 years and I've just recently started this dreaming stuff - scares my wife to death. My neuroligist tells me that it is caused by the Parkinson's attacking the brains nerve centre that would normally paralyse our body during REM sleep. This means that our body now reacts to the brain stimulus during the dream - ie: we curse, punch, run away and struggle and don't remember anything in the morning.
