My Mom has PD, she was diagnosed about 13 years ago and did very well until the past year when her symptoms have become worse. She is 77. In recent months she has been having paranoia - I think I've read somewhere that this can be a side effect of the meds does anyone know about this. I've only recently been exploring more about the illness. I am a distant caregiver, I live a province away and so I get over about every 6 weeks by plane to spend a week. Is dimentia a part of PD or is it usually a separate illness. Others experiences would be helpful to me. Thanks for reading.

Thank you Suzie Q and Pauline. I appreciate your suggestions. Mom is schedued for a CT scan on next Monday. This is supposed to be a very good specialist as her GP decided that she should wait to see this Dr.as opposed to someone else. GP has been considering that the meds may be contributing or causing the problems. My Mom is in Calgary Alberta Canada. This evening I have found out from family members that Mom stopped taking her Sinemet 2 days ago, no one knew, but she confessed to this today after being taken by ambulance to the hospital. She is afraid that someone is trying to poison her. I'm glad that she will see someone soon and I will call her Dr tomorrow to discuss or leave a message of my concerns. My Mom's Grandma had dementia in her 70s so it makes me wonder if poor Mom has inherited this. Mom has times of being herself but more and more she has times of feeling she is back in different time periods of her life. Often is in her childhood. Mom has been traumatized many times in her life so I think she is re living some of these times and therefore feeling very scared. I'm planning to going to see Mom, I want to be with her to support her and to help my Dad and siblings. I have to make some arrangements at my work place. I'm very upset tonight and I appreciate being able to share my despair with people who will have some empathy and understanding. Thank you from Linksy

Dear Linsky
I hope things are a bit better for you and your mum. My dad had Parkinsons with Lewey Bodies. Sounds very like your mums symptoms. Its a bit like PD and Alzheimmers rolled into one not a very good combination. He too became very paranoid. I was only a teenager at that time but still have vivid upsetting memories. I can only sympathise with you and agree with the other members that your mum is very lucky to have you.
Best of luck
Janice

Hi. This is my first posting but my mom has the same symptoms being described and the doctor told us in advance to expect them - he said it was the medication. He forgot to tell us it would get harder. It helped that we could prepare - my mom was more comfortable telling us when she was having delusions (or illusions as my dad calls them) at the beginning. Now that the dimentia is getting worse it is harder for her to communicate about most things so for me - I just try and watch to see if she looks like she is seeing something and if it is troubling - to talk about it - like a kid having a bad dream. One of the best, best pieces of advice ever, came from the founder of this site - I dance with my mom. Even if she is uncomfortable or a bit out of it - it helps for a minute or two and a minute or two is a lot some days. Good luck to you and hang in there.
