The first passion flower of the season. Sorry it is a bit blurred but you can still see how complex these flowers are. There about 200 buds now so the hedge it has attached itself to should be a riot of colour in a week or so.
Elaine planted lilies for the first time and they have turned out really well. About 8 inches diameter when fully out.
Just thought I would like to share these piccies.

I just thought that you might like to know........

The meaning of the name Passion Flower

"Passion" does not refer to love, but to the Christian theological icon of the passion of Christ on the cross. In the 15th and 16th centuries, Spanish Christian missionaries discovered this flower and adopted its unique physical structures as symbols of Crucifixion. For example: the radial filaments which can number more than a hundred and vary from flower to flower represent the Crown of Thorns. The ten petals and sepals represent the ten faithful apostles. The top 3 stigmata represent the 3 nails and the lower 5 anthers represent the 5 wounds. The flower has been given names related to this symbolism throughout Europe since that time. In Spain, it is known as Espina de Cristo (Christ's Thorn). In Germany it was once known as Muttergottes-Schuzchen (Mother-of-God's Star). (From Wikipedia)
