My Dad has PD and cannot tolerate any medications he has tried so far. Has anyone else had this problem? Are there any new medications that might be easier for him to take?

Been taking Azilect 1 mg tablet for about 4 years. I have had no problems with it but never had any problem with any Meds. I have had a shaking hand for over 5 years and so for has not spread to any other part of my body, thou shaking has increased.I have got lianna's book, and remember at least four people that were taking Azilect all with positive results. This might not be of any help to you but good luck.

My husband was on all different kinds of Parkinson meds and nothing seemed to help. Finally he was diagnosed wiith Progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP) - some of the symptoms are eye movements (failure of voluntary vertical eye movements, especially downward gazing), pseudo-bulbar palsy, dementia - this is very difficult to diagnose. All he is on now is Amentadine.

Thank you for your suggestions. This is a wonderful site and very helpful. What a good idea Lliana had for people to communicate about PD. Does anyone know if any of the stem cell research being done has led to any actual treatment anywhere in this country? And if so, where?

There is a site in the U.K----www.cureparkinsons.org.uk
Click on the R (for research) on the headline CUREPD. You may have to sign in first.
The whole site is well worth visiting . Look for the section under 'movers and shakers'. There is an inspirational book written by Tom Isaacs on his 4500 mile walk around the coastline of Britain. Tom has severe P.D. Good luck Tony from U.K

Hi Lizg, I take sinemet 62.5 (lowest dosage available) and Rasagiline (Azilect) with no side effects. I was tried on agonists and they had a really bad effect on me. I have had PD for 8 years now and am lucky in that my major problem is only tremor - right side of my body (arm and leg) mainly. I also have other minor problems associated with PD but nothing major so far. I take 9 sinemet/day and for me they are my salvation. When your Dad finds medication that suits him be sure not to take more than he is prescribed as this can be worse than the side effects of medication.

you could try Isradipine especially if there is also a problem of high blood pressure since it can be prescribed for that purpose by your doctor. there have been some good results with this drug and pd but we are warned that a significant amount of research needs to be done before definite conclusions can be drawn as to this drug protecting dopamine neurons, however the signs are good and that it may also rejuvenate brain neurons that are dying because of pd!

Has anyody heard anything about taking glyconutrients for PD? What about LDN- low dose naltrexone? I am new to this forum- still learning my way around. I live in a small town in Illinois, USA. I am 54, low level PD with what seems to be slow progresssion of PD- and I thank the Lord for that.
Thanks,
Christine Lee

Hello again- re: glyconutrtients. I am currently taking Glycomannan - it is a powdered glyconutrient supplement. Ordered it online. Only been taking for about 2 weeks now. i go to my neurologist in August and I want to see how I do on all the little "tests"- see if I have made improvement since my last appt. in May. To research glyconutrition, I got on internet and just began looking up info. about it and I liked what I was learningabout glyconutrition. I am not on a lot of meds- just Azilect (1mg/day) and Co-Q 10 (1200 mg/day) along with my trial of glycomannan (2 scoops/day). I will keep you posted!
