I hope this makes sense
I have been reading all the old post on hear, trying to put 2+2 together
I have found there are some can connect with the work environment, but everyone seems to be saying, they have had a lot of stress in their lives. The other thing i noticed was that some, have another member of Family, not always immediate, ie in-law, uncle. With PD which has to be stress full
Has any one got any comment's, even if it's to say I'm talking out of my rear end

When I told my doctor that I believed that the physical trauma I had experienced caused the PD, he just said that it was an interesting theory. I know my body and it was never the same after I was beaten up. For five years after that I kept telling the doctor that I felt like my muscels were failing on me and he just kept sending me to physical thearpy. It was the physical that finally told me I should insist on seeing a neurologist. The timing was just too coincidental not to have been the cause of the PD. Gail

Gail I agree with you & You Heather
In my 1st 12 months of my job
I was held up in an Armed Robbery with a sawn off pump action shotgun by an escapee prisoner , 2 weeks later I had an 18 inch knife to my throat, then 4 car crashes/bumps every 2 weeks apart as a passenger.
I knew when I started having symptoms and upon being diagnosed the consultant Say's from the 1st signs I had, it is known to go back 5 yrs it is generally then when the cells started dying off. if I went back 5 years it was the 1st year I joined my profession.
I believe a succession of events prior to the stressful events made me susceptible to PD upon a traumatic event occuring.
That is my opinion but I'm open to a cure ! which would be 1st before an explanation

Hi All,
I really do believe that stress is a big factor in parkinsons, but I don't know if it is the cause or if it simply magnifys the symptoms (can't think of a better way to put this).
Michael J Fox (is that what you call the actor who has and is involved in promoting research on parkinsons?) believes that parkinsons is caused by a virus and I am inclined to agree with him. Up until my father was 63 he ran full marathons and in order to do that he ran every single day of his life. Besides running he did exercises every morning. He was super fit for his age. The October before his 63rd birthday he was training for the Great North Run and took a chest infection. He wouldn't take antibiotics because that would have interfered with his training. A couple of months after the Great Norh Run he was diagnosed with eschemiac heart disease (don't know the proper spelling). It is believed that eschemiac heart disease can be caused by a virus going to the heart. Eschemiac heart disease is an irregular heart beat and although if it is not treated the sufferer can take a stroke, it doesn't usually show in the persons general health. I am able to trace back a general deterioration in my father's health from this date and so am inclined to believe that the same virus caused my father's parkinsons.
My mother died suddenly and on the morning of her death our gp called to the house to pay his respects and on that morning he told me that my father had parkinsons. Since my mother's death my father has gone down hill rapidly. I notice that if anything stressful happens it really effects his parkinsons. He just cannot handle stress at all. Before taking parkinsons my father was the most practical, level headed person, but since taking parkinsons he panics over nothing.
Well, sorry for rambling but you did ask for my thoughts! Also, thanks for giving me the opportunity to express them. That's the good thing about this forum, we get the opportunity to talk things through.
God bless

Hi Gail
I would have thought Trauma and stress would be linked together, and maybe we could add depression to it

Hi Geraldine
I remember about your dad running marathons
That is very, interesting,
so do you think, that at some time
Past or present , someone with PD could have had a virus ,that may have laid dome, till something very stressful happened like LTD -addition or Gail's trauma, or in dads case a present viruse , hope that makes sense
That is one of the good things about this site, no one judges , I always found it difficult with Dyslexia trying to express on paper what i want to say, but people on hear, read what is wrote, and take the time to understand what i mean/ trying to say/ask
Thank you all

Hi,
I am a classic virus person.
Last Novemeber (2007), to got THE worst virus (Cold/ Flu type symptoms) I have ever had. It put me in bed for 2 weeks. Major headaches, fever, body aches and pains, slept for days at a time. Over these 2 weeks I went to the GP 4 times, he just scratched his head and extended my doctor certificate for work. I felt lousy. I went back to work still not 100% but starting to pick up.
To my surprize, I could not write properly. It looked like ant writing. I use to writing big, flowing and bold. This was small uncontrolled printing which needed a massive amount of concenration to produce. WHAT A SHOCK? My right arm was very weak and trembled under the strain. I had a constant 'inner shriver' that i found hard to explain to anyone.
My GP was misterfied and told me to rest and come back in a month. So a month passed (Christmas/ new Year) no better. So he sent me to the Neurologist. She diagnosed me with Unilateral Post Viral (Classic) PD - her words - Feb 2008.
My condition has deteriated very quickly, much to my specialists surprize.
My right arm and leg are markedly weaker. I have recently (yesterday) been diagnosed with a 'Frozen Sholder'. I have torn a major tendon in my shoulder while trying to hang out the clothes on the clothes line. Simple as that. I am booked into hospital for this Thursday for a 'Shoulder Repair' also called a 'Rotator Cuff Shoulder Repair'. Expected recovery time 6 weeks but the specialist expects 3 months due to my muscle wastage.
I'll be back as good as new - as ARNIE would say!
Regards
heather

"]Trauma and stress could be a possible cause of bringing a virus that has laid dormant into PD. I wasn't diagnosed with PD until the approx. same time as my husband with Alzheimers. It was very traumatic and full of stress. I saw a psychiatrist who first diagnosed me as agitated depressed. He prescribed meds for depression and thought my tremor in my left arm was psychological. But if a person has a virus don't the symptoms disappear once the virus is gone?
