Hi!

My dad has suffered with PD for approx. 10 years and sometimes suffers from hideous headaches which he describes as feeling as if his head is going to explode! When the headaches occur his face is also very flushed, and he feels hot to the touch but does not in fact have a temperature. Can anyone shed any light on the possible reasons for this? or has anyone experienced similar?

Maxine

Hi Maxine,

If you read the contra indications on your Dads medication it may list it as part of one of the side effects.

Make a point of ringing his Parkinson's Nurse or Neurologists secretary to ask the question and ring you back. This way they can decide if he needs to be seen again soon.

I hope this helps you

I do not know if it helps but if I drink alcohol, firstly I get the feeling of a tight band around my head then next I feel awful so now no alcohol, shame I really did enjoy a glass (or two) of wine

Hi Parkie
i think just about all PD medication says no alcohol,I gave Jim a very week shandy, for his 65 last year he felt sick,an i thought he was going to pop a artery, thank god for his peg, so i could aspirate his stomach, and flush him with water,he is on sinemet plus ,and most antidepressants as well.

Hi I suffer from terrible headaches. I do get migraines but
lately I get headaches like your dad describes (my head is going to explode) The meds for migraines don't touch the headache. My neuro tells me that the medicine for pd is not causing them but I disagree. I have been on "sinamet" for several months now and that is when the bad headaches started. I am going to discuss this w/ my doctor on my next visit.

My wife has severe headaches on occasions and she never drinks alcohol and It does not seem to be related to her PD medication.I have tried to establish the cause by methodical reasoning and have concluded that it is very much STRESS RELATED and try to ensure that she dosn,t fret about things too much. The answerI am sure is to RELAX,RELAX,RELAX
Best Wishes-Gary

Hi Gary
i think stress has a lot to answer for, in every ones life, but PD thrives on stress
I think you have the best idea RELAX ,better than more medication

Thanks for all your comments - I have a feeling that stress is a major contributor for the headaches, and we'll try and work on some relaxation techniques.

I have what I call pd sweats. I only sweat on my head. I get very flushed and sweat profusely. This happens at any time of day or night. It has nothing to do with woking or not. Anyone out there that have these sweats, let me know.bruce

Hi girls and Bruce

this may sound stupid

but have you had your hormone levels checked, yes you as well Bruce [ men do have hormones:p:p], some medication can affect male and feel male hormones, as as you no i'm not up on medication
sounds like hot flushes to me Sue, and being of the age,of been there done that :D:D

Just a thought

I can understand that Sue
but i look at it this way

without PD would you be at the time to have the sweats

with men it could be medication

Jim had problems with his bladder, so had him first tested for prostate

he had painful hips [joint's] he was 60 yes old arthritis,
now he is stiff all over, could this be because he is not moving and would be a little stiff ,
i no i am stiff in the morning's as i have the other devil Arthritis

so i just think we haveto look at our age, and circumstances first

if we blame it all on PD, then it is winning, things could be missed, that could be easily put right, as you no if they say PD they just change medication ,and leave it at that

this is just my thought's

Hi Heather,
I agree with you. The first bit of advice I got from our Parkinsons Nurse was never to assume that anything was parkinsons and always have things checked out.
God bless

I, too have sweats mostly at night while sleeping and not all the time- my assumption is that it is part of PD. Not much I can do about them - just have a small towel handy to dry off a bit:rolleyes:and be thankful that my sweats aren't too awful.;)
