Hi,
My mother has recently developed PD and the neurolgist prescribed Azelect. She is 87 years old and has diabetes and vascular dementia. She is super sensitive to new meds so after taking Azelect for 10 days she can barley get on her feet. She uses a walker but now we have to use a wheelchair to move her. Her tremoring has reduced somewhat so it is easier for her to pick-up a fork. Has one experienced this problem with Azelect?

When I started Azelict, I lost all sense of taste for 3 weeks, it gradually came back, that has been the only noticible side effect. My blood pressure spiked once with provolone cheese, I still eat aged cheese in small amounts even though your not supposed to but not provolone anymore.
Rusty, my prayers are with your mom, she is lucky to have you.

Hi Rusty

I asked my Doctor some 4 years ago if I could try Azilect 1 mg because I had seen it advertised in a newspaper. The readers' response to this drug was very positive. I have found it has helped the tremor in my left hand. I only wish it would make me look 30 yrs younger.

Hi Rusty
I have been taking Azelect for 12 months now and has helped me enormously with no side effects except slight loss of smell and taste. It would appear to me that your Mother's other meds are in conflict with Azelect. I agree with Suzie Q.
Not all neurologists check to see if different meds are harmonious with each other.
It may well be that a different med for her other conditions may smooth out her reactions. It is always trial and error with meds as the medics can only guess at what will work. Good luck.
All of you have as good a day as you can.

Heather W, coming in at the wrong time, wrong place again I think. Probably followed the wrong thread to here but like so many of you, known names, Gail, Suzie, Drew, Pauline - I seem to survive on very little sleep. i also love my tim between 5 and 8 when I feel at my best, although things have changed slightly lately, see below.
I have never taken Azilect so not able to say much about it, except I did ask my PDS Nurse if I should try it and she said ReQuip was better, I am still not sure but I take Sinimet 4 times a day, first dose 7 am, last dose 11 pm.
However I have just changed my ReQuip 9 mg per day (3 x 1 mg tabs - 3 times per day.)
Tablets now taken are 1 (one) 8 mg Requip XL - prolonged release tablet) along with the sinimet. It seems to be working quite well.
I also have a sleeping pill, I take one about once every 6 weeks when I feel a full 8 hrs are called for, it is Zopiclone. I find it is effective and does not have lasting effects, I wake up with no long lasting sleepiness.
Hope all sorts itself out, I guess we have to experiment with our medication until they get it right.
Goo Luck Heather Wilmot
