My dad, 76 y.o, has just been diagnosed with PD (non tremor form), he shows slowness of movement, walking problems, depression, decreased arm swing etc.
I´m desvastated. We have not yet start treatment.
Any suggestions? I'd greatly appreciate your help.

Hi Alice
Welcome to the forum. My name is Patsy I have PD for 10 yrs.
How you describe your dad as, is exactly the same as I was 10yrs ago.
You get your dad to a neurologist who will put him on medication, there are lots of good meds for PD now.
I started on REQUIP it did not help, so i went back to my neurologist and he put me on STALEVO and it gave me back my life, I could walk, swing my arm and do everything I did prior to PD. My depression also went.
If you have any questions I will do my best to answer them. Hope this is of some help to you.
Regards
Patsy :)

Hi
I agree with all Patsy says I am now 65 had PD since 1999 diagnosed 2001 but I can still do everything albeit very much slower.A good neurologist is essential to prescribe the correct medication but do not be suprised if some medications do not agree with your Dad tell the neurlogist if that is so as there are alternatives .the problem with PD is that everyone has different reactions to meds, PD moves at different speeds there is no 1 cure to help everyone.Try to keep your Dad as active as possible don't believe that everything you read will happen to your Dad because it will not and try to remain positive .I know that this is difficult when first diagnosed but we have all reacted with disbelief when told the news and it takes time to accept
There are lots of people willing to help on this Forum so just ask anything nothing is too small a question - someone will know the answer
Best wishes
